A leading psychologist fears that Brits feel their lives have become “duller than ever”, following the publication of research today. The survey, conducted for Ladbrokescasino.com, questioned Brits on how exciting they consider their lives to be, showing that we have become a nation of ‘nil-seekers’ rather than thrill-seekers.
The findings were released today to mark the launch of a new ad campaign for Ladbrokescasino.com, which shows that only 6% of us describe ourselves as ‘living life to the max’ and almost half of us (46%) believe Britain has become a ‘boring nation’.
It has been said that 2008 has already been a depressing year for Brits - with England knocked out of Euro ‘08 and the endless doom of the credit crunch – so now seems like a good time for the UK public to find some time to thrill-seek. In fact, one in ten Brits get their biggest everyday thrill from doing well at work (10%). The same amount of us also cite the biggest thrill they have ever received was passing their driving test. Furthermore, a measly one in a hundred females claim losing their virginity was their biggest thrill versus 7% of men! Perhaps even more tragically, staying on top of household chores was also a popular choice for women as 7% claimed they derive their topmost titillation from a spot of dusting.
Regionally, it’s Londoners who seem to be missing the adrenaline the most however, as only 4% of them claim that they live life to the max, and almost half (46%) feel that they regularly crave an adrenaline rush.
Renowned ‘Big Brother’ psychologist and Life Coach Honey Langcaster-James says, “Britons are struggling at the moment to derive pleasure from everyday life and seem to be feeling as if their lives have become duller than ever. If we don’t start introducing methods into our dull routines to liven things up, we will become a nation that feels depressed and largely unsatisfied by the way we lead our lives. Brits should treat themselves to at least one ‘thrill’ per month for their wellbeing - this could be as simple as planning a great night out or as exciting as taking that hot air balloon ride they have always thought about. Allowing themselves these little treats could have added health benefits, including increased energy, motivation and may even improve self esteem.”
The survey of over 2,000 people was conducted by YouGov to celebrate the launch of the new TV advert by Labrokescasino.com, which centres around fulfilling your thrill seeking fantasies. Ladbrokescasino.com is full of action-packed slot and table games, offering over 300 thrills for everyone. From taking a spin on the £5 million jackpot slot Mega Moolah, to testing your luck on three card casino poker, blackjack and roulette – there’s enough to quench everyone’s thrill buds.
Natalie Coles, Head of Marketing at Ladbrokescasino.com added, “Our research shows that Brits are clearly taking less time to enjoy themselves at present, yet that urge to thrill seek still prevails among us. With our new TV ad campaign, we aim to show that the ladbrokescasino.com website caters for our thrill-seeking customers - you can experience the excitement of roulette, blackjack, and over 170 action-packed slot games including Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword, The Osbournes and Hitman".
